Puppies, like children, have different growth stages. So, like children, they learn much more effectively if the training is suited to the stage they are in.
Between birth and 15 or 16 weeks of age, they are best suited to learning how to socialise and how to have some self control. Once they have learnt their all important social skills, they are ready for formal training.
If your pup is more than 16 weeks of age, he is most likely ready for formal obedience training, whether or not he has done Puppy Pre-school.
In your Tails Up puppy obedience course, you will learn how to increase your pup’s self control. You will also learn to communicate with your pup in canine language. You will train your dog using hand signals and facial expressions rather than words. This means you will be able to teach your pup:
- to come when you call – not when he is ready;
- walk nicely beside you on a loose lead without pulling and lunging towards people or dogs;
- remain calm when visitors arrive or the doorbell rings;
- go to his mat or bed when you ask & stay there while you eat or work ;
- leave dangerous items (such as old bones she might find on a walk) or to drop items she already has in her mouth; and, of course
- if toilet training is still an issue we will help you with this as well.
